Good morning.
The construction company I advise for has recently taken delivery of a sample of temporary edge protection. It basically works by attaching it to the steelwork at ground level via clamps and lifting the girder into place with the barrier already in situ. (It is similar in principle to some proprietary systems already on the market).
However, although it conforms to the BS EN 13374 standard dimensions-wise, I would like to send it for independent testing for load bearing capablilities etc as these cannot be ascertained by a drawing! It has been procured from a company in China and it is a special order so the data does not already exist. The MD is very keen to pursue this route so simply suggesting to him to use an existing system will not wash!
Can anybody recommend a suitable testing house that can conduct strength testing against the BS requirements?
Thank you in advance, Ian.

Morning Ian
You could try the National Engineering Laboratory in East Kilbride. Have historically tested e.g. free standing edge protection systems.

Is not this type of testing taken to failure limits, and if this is the case, would lead to purchasing at least two of every component.

Hi. Will give the company a try.
Re: failure limits, that isn't a problem as this is a preliminary sample that will lead to an order if it proves fit for purpose.
Cheers folks.

Oops. From the search results it appears that this establishment has gone defunct!
Any other options?
Cheers, Ian M

The National Engineering Laboratory are still 'alive and kicking' in East Kilbride (I was there last month!), but are now part of TUV. See http://www.tuvnel.com/
Ask for Lyn Hunter, in the first instance.
