Posted By Saracen11 Hi Ann, if you contact the HSE and ask to speak to an inspector with the relevant knowledge, he/she should be able to advise you. An inspector assisted a colleague and myself recently regarding a particular machine. The man that turned up was really helpful and he knew his stuff! Regards

Posted By Frank Hallett Hi Ann Would you like to tell us more about your problem and in what context you ask the question? As the post stands you could be asking for anything from functional designers through to the actual machine operator to come forward. It's possible that I have some of the necessary expertise but can't really tell at this stage. Frank Hallett

Posted By Ann Hacon To clarify - this equipment has already been installed in a workshop - but not running. I am looking for assistance with RA, namely PUWER. Many thanks indeed.

Posted By Mike Draper Ann On the face of it then, this sounds relatively simple. You have some new machinery that you have installed and you now need make sure you comply with PUWER. Your new machinery should be a) CE marked, b) have an EC Declaration of Conformity c) residual risk statements and d) come complete with installation, operating and maintenance instructions. In essence if you have these three elements then you are a long way down the road already! What you now need to consider is whether you will be using the equipment in accordance with the limits of use defined in the instructions, the training needs of the operators (including maintenance) and whether there will be any additional risks not addressed by the supplier of the equipment that may arise from where, how and when you intend to use it. You should get hold of a copy of L22 Safe use of work equipment from the HSC and step through the requirements of regulations 4 to 9, 20 and 21. Providing that you can then demonstrate that you are using the equipment in the way that was intended, you probably won't have to physically do anything else other than confirm compliance with reg 10, however you should verify that the equipment as supplied addresses the requirements of the other regs. All that will then be left to do is write your operating procedures. I hope that this is of some assistance. Mike
