Posted By STEVE As a company, we have a lot of transient workers(contractors) working on differnt sites, on some of these sites our men are managed by the clients area managers whom provide them with their workload each day. On these sites we provide a Supervisor whom our men can go to if they are unsure of any aspect of work or have concerns regarding any safety issues, to back this up our supervisor, md, client manager and safety representive hold a monthly review meeting of how as a company we are performing as a Contractor. The client provides the work related tasks to our employees. Should the Client provide the safe system of work and necessary controls of how to do this work? Should we as a Company on reviewing the Clients work procedure have our own safe system of work for this activity or is it enough for the Client to provide the work information(they being knowledgable of the activity)? Whilst the employees safety is our responsibility,is it acceptable for the Client to provide a safe system of work for them? Your thoughts please Steve

Posted By Jan Moore Sounds like your workers carry out planned work on various sites i.e. you know what work they will be doing? Does the client issue the workload and what does this work involve? It would be better to work with the client so that all aspects are covered i.e. risk assessments protecting both the client, his staff and your workers. What you will need to have covered are evacuation plans, making sure your workers don't compromise existing client plans; First aid arrangements - who is the first aider?; Security arrangements - do your workers compromise existing arrangements i.e. prop security doors open when they are working? A little more info would be useful. Kind regards Jan

Posted By Salus Steve, both parties have a duty of care, you should be making sure you have suitable and suffecient risk assessments for the work you are carrying out, the client should be assessing your company, insurance, risk assessments and safe working procedures to ensure they are compling with their legal responsibilities and to satisfy themselves that you have adeqately addressed the hazards that are identified and will put controls in place the reduce them. Both parties should regulary monitor the work and record the findings. H & S is about all parties taking responsibility for their piece of the cake.Lots more but hope I have answered your thread
