Posted By Ken Taylor Does anyone know of any entertaining DVDs or videos on working at height, manual handling, COSHH, etc suitable for showing to young people (eg work experience)? I already have the CITB, FPA/LPC and Safety Media items.

Posted By Keith E Plenty of videos/DVDs available on the topic you mention - try VOCAM. Whether they are entertaining of not, is a matter of opinion. I guess most people would say not.

Posted By Ken Taylor I shall have another look at Vocam at the 2006 Expo in Birmingham, Keith. The problem is one of maintaining the interest of young people these days and the 'lecturing/list of rules' approach in some material is a big turn-off. I have found that the FPA video on safe lifting (with Gary Taylor, the weightlifter) goes down well with all sorts of audiences (including nurses) - but am at risk of 'flogging this one to death' and cannot find anything else of this type for other areas of H&S. Thanks for your offer, Dave. I must admit to never having to give training in the Safety Signs and Signals Regs in our fields of work activity. We just have the words with the pictograms and tell them what they mean when they start. So please don't take your garage apart for this one!

Posted By garyh The "Remember Charlie" video / DVD lasts about 50 minutes but is excellent and really makes you think. For those of you H&S Practitioners who haven't seen it, shame on you! It's expensive but still has great impact, in my opinion.

Posted By Descarte I wouldnt recommend remember charlie for young workers though, it is very graphic in its descripions, and will probably scare the pants of em, especially work experience which could be below 16

Posted By Ken Taylor I can remember that one but think you're right Des - maximum attention to video (or anything else for that matter) seems to be about 20 mins these days.

Posted By garyh I know that 50 minutes sounds a long time, however kids watch films etc on DVD that last 2 hours! I stand by what I said, Remember Charlie is worth considering (incidentally I assumed that the oroginal thread referred to 16 plus age group, I agree it would not be suitable for say 14 year olds).

Posted By Descarte Not having watched it for ages, does he not go into detail about not being able to sleep at night whilst suspending in a vat of a type of acid due to other peoples scream as they had their skin peeled off every few hours to prevent scaring in a specialist hospital?
