Posted By Bill Elliott A bit of a personal rant really. Having been the subject of an identity theft I make sure that all my personal details are removed from letters, bills etc etc before consigning them to the recycling bin. Of late I have noticed there is a growing tendency to send out mailings in plastic bags with the name, address etc printed on the plastic (eg SHP magazine). Ah! - now what - can't shred that in the shredder, or put in the paper recycling. Question how do you remove the personal details before consiging it to the waste bin?

Posted By Jonathan Breeze Use that cheap aftershave you got for Christmas? (Also great for cleaning acetates and glasses.) A proprietary tape head cleaner? Incineration?

Posted By Sheila EJ Keogh I always tear out the white rectangular blob that has my name and address and any bar codes and burn it in the open fire or tear it to trillions of pieces. the rest can then be chucked out with no come-back to you.

Posted By Frank Hallett Shred & burn everything that could provide a link to your personal details but be very aware that everyone that you do business with has enough to enable someone to steal part of your identity if they fail to guard it securely. Frank Hallett

Posted By Stupendous Man Interestingly, the Police do not recognise 'identity theft' as a criminal offence. Indeed, it only becomes an offence if someone uses your identity and you suffer some sort of loss as a result. At the end of the day, your address on a magazine pouch is no more information than is contained on the electoral register...
