Posted By Helen Edginton I have been given the opportunity to re-write my own job description ..... European Health & Safety Advisor. This is a good thing as the senior management are at long last recognising the work that I (and all like minded h&s professionals) do. Would anyone be willing to show me thiers?!

Posted By garyh Good luck to you! Just document what you do, and what you are responsible for. Don't put in low grade rubbish which don't get points! Document the triangular relationships HR people love (ie who is above and below you). Your a team player but REMEMBER "I" do things not "we"!!! That's wot gets you kudos............. You will find you do more than you and others think! Don't kid youself that any of this matters; they always tell you that you job will be assessed, graded and salaried on this basis...........bull****. You get the min salary they can keep you on, usually pulled out of thin air. And if they genuinely "grade" you, notice that salary bands under systems like "Hay" are usually vary large.........so they can fiddle you salary accordingly. In my experience, the best way to advance your career / salary is either to have someone ("Mentor" or similar) batting for you, or to leave to get a better job. When they replace you it is usually with someone on a higher salary......... Sorry to go off thread. If people think I am being cynical, so be it. I have worked in two multi national companies operating this type of system and I know what I am talking about. PS life isn't fair..........

Posted By Jim Walker You might like to have a look at HSG 65 under competence - some nice "pastable" sentences in there
