Posted By Bill Morrison Warehouse staff decide during luchbreak to have a game of football in the car park. One falls over a cracks his elbow, off to hospital and comes back with his arm in plaster. As this not actually as a result of a work activity would it be reportable? It then goes further as to why/if playing football on work premises should be permitted? Cheers Bill

Posted By anon1234 I think not as it did not arise out of or in connection with work - unless of course it was a company organised activity - although look at the RIDDOR guidance in respect of professional sportsmen etc, where such an incident is definetely excluded from RIDDOR

Posted By Steven If the person in question was on the company property then it should be reported, if the company does not allow “football” to be played on its premises then all those involved should be warned, as should the management for allowing the activity. Also was the condition of the car park in good condition? Is this person classed as a member of the public if they are not being paid at the time of the accident?

Posted By gham http://www.iosh.co.uk/in...iew&forum=1&thread=19153 "Are they paid during their lunch breaks, if no they are on their own time then it's down to the cause of the injury e.g. if it's because of the condition of the carpark occupiers liability (if you don't ban the football and are aware of it, you may appear to be facilitating it). I don't think playing football is classed as a work activity, the injury would have to have been caused when undertaking a work activity, so Not RIDDOR reportable

Posted By Bill Morrison Then car park is in good condition, the person was not being paid it was it was during the lunch break. It was a spur of the moment activity, just had a football and decided to have a kick about. We have now instructed all staff that playing football on work site is not permitted. When I contacted HSE info line, they stated as it was not as a result of a work related activity it does not need to be reported. nothing about condition of car park etc Bill
