Posted By Paul Durkin In a new(to me) building, it has been custom & practice to use the fixed vertical ladder(no hoops)to access the loft No fall arrest system has ever been used(access is required at least every 6 months)On one side of the ladder there is an open stair well, hence a fall could be more than the loft ht of 3m. Please give me some idea of where best to look or give advice on such a device? Regards,Paul

Posted By anon1234 Have you considered installing a robust mesh framework on the stairwell side (floor to ceiling) to prevent the possibility of someone falling down the stairwell from the ladder?

Posted By Peter R Peacock After you have completed your risk assessment taking into account the WAH REgs. (i.e. do you really need to go up there) Maybe contact an approved contractor to install either a wire based fall arrest system or a track based fall arrest system. Cheaper alternatives are to use a short double lanyard system to gain safe access. For more info and advice please e mail me.
