when you inserted a website address into a post it automatically created a link to open a new window and take you there!

Um, at the risk of sounding daft, why this posting? Are you trying to get at something?

hyper-links would be nice, but it only takes a few mouse clicks to copy and paste any web site into the address bar (and you don't need the http:// bit either)

Yeah, but I'm lazy, and want to keep the IOSH page open whilst browsing the Hyperlink (thats the word I was looking for) :-)
I thought Joe might be lurking in here somewhere to offer some technical advice.

Hi Paul,
The solution if you want to keep the Discussion forum open is to open up two copies of your browser. Keep one on the Discussion forum while you use the other for links.

Jane

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the suggestion but this feature of our forums is actually intentional. The reason we don't allow active hyperlinks within postings is to discourage misuse and block direct links from our website to inappropriate content.
Of course you can still post the URL, but anyone wishing to follow the link is required to manually copy and paste it into their internet browser.
Thanks again,
Neal Clark, Web Co-ordinator.

Or use ctrl-t if you use a decent browser that allows tabbed-browsing ;-)
the other thing which would be useful is a 'quote' button so that in a long thread you can reply to a post several posts ago without it looking like you're replying to the post immediately above you (if you see what I mean). It might make some replies easier to follow.
