I would like to canvas members thoughts on IOSH administration. I've just paid for my annual subscription by credit card and have been informed that it will take up to 3 weeks to get a receipt.

Once I have the receipt I can claim the membership from my employer. I wouldn't mind if we were talking small beer, but 3+ weeks to be without £100 is quite a period of time. The chappy who sits next to me cheered me up no end when he said it took 6 weeks to process his membership renewal.

We live in the modern data age, I can pay instantly, but then have to wait for a tree to be chopped down, mushed and pulped by hand into paper, dried in the setting sun, printed out by Cistercian monks and posted my her majesty's pigeon post.

Whats it all mean.....

Why don't you just feel grateful that your boss is reinbursing you the cost of membership. I don't think that's the norm.I pay for my membership myself.

Haven't you anything better do do than complain about something so trivial.

Mine will take even longer ... you have just reminded me that I haven't paid yet. It's not always a one-way problem.

I used to be the Institution's most unreliable payer (not deliberate - just forgetful) until the year I was threatened with removal from the RSP if I didn't pay pronto....

Now I pay by Direct Debit, so as I don't really notice when the payment goes out, I also don't really notice how long it takes to get the membership card!

My employer doesn't pay my subscription either - nor do I expect them to.

My boss pays my membership for me ( although Little Nino does have to beat his signature out of him with a large stick ).

I certainly don't agree that this complaint / comment is trivial. When was waiting for £100 ever trivial ( maybe to some of you rich types out there but frankly in recent years I have had to forego the Bentley for a Nissan )?

I'm not rich. Nice of you to assume.

Your membership being paid for you is a perk, not a right.

It is trivial compared to the lack of decent wages.

Tony,
Please accept our apologies for the length of time it is taking to get your receipt and membership card. We have had a few 'challenges!' to sort out this year with the subs run.
In a response to members' dis-satisfaction with the diy type membership card issued last year, we moved to a seperate card attached to the receipt. Unfortunately this has to be printed by an outside supplier and therefore your payment has to be 'batched' and sent to them for action. As we are now reaching the end of the subscription run these batches are less frequent than they were when the bulk of subscriptions were taken on the due date of 1st April.
The six week delay was a seperate issue in that we couldn't process the money fast enough. We are currently in the middle of the implementation of our new membership relationship management system that we have had to introduce to support the on-line CPD system and for this year's subs run it didn't manage the payment relationship with members too well! The system isn't yet integrated with accounts so all card payments have had to be processed by hand through a terminal, the membership team have been working flat out to minimise the delays but unfortunately they have been rather hampered although through their hard work we have now caught up.(Thanks Norman and team in Membership). If you contact Norman Walton directly Tony, he will be able to issue a temporary receipt if it is causing you problems but you proper one won't be long.
All being well normal service will be resumed next year. Thanks for your patience.
