Can someone confirm whether or not telephones intended for use in the UK should be CE marked, please?
I am under the belief that they should be but cannot find any specific mention of them.

I'm thinking PUWER might apply if the phones are being used at work, but I don't have the regs to hand.
The CE mark merely identifies an item as being fit for purpose according to the manufacturer and that they have submitted a data file stating as much.
Some unscrupulous manufactures have also been known to put CE marks on their kit without submitting any data, so don't rely on the mark alone.
That's how I understand it anyway, watch somone contradict me now.

There is an amendment at the following link http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2003/20031903.htm
The Radio Equipment and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (Amendment) Regulations 2003
which has the following explanatory note:
regulation 2(5)(a) and (c) has the effect that there is no prohibition on putting apparatus into service merely because inter alia, it does not bear the CE marking providing the essential requirements are met. (This exception does not apply in any case of placing on the market.);
regulation 2(5)(b) amends the requirement that apparatus must carry certain markings in addition to the CE marking
Regards
John
