Over the past week or so I have been unable to see the email addresses displayed in the various messages on the forum.
I know some people choose not to have these displayed, but in the past most people have.
Is it just my PC or is everyone encountering this issue?
Thank you.

Doh!
Have just noticed that as I had to log in to create the mail, the email addresses are now visible.
However, as far as I am aware this was not previously the case and the email addresses were available whether or not you had logged in.
Can someone alow me to keep a little dignity and confirm or otherwise.
Thanks
Mike

It was to prevent forum users being spammed. Once you register and log in it will show email addresses.

I can't see what difference it will make as anyone can join.

I was wondering; is there a degree of (wrong word, I'm sure, but..) mistrust of those that choose not to display their e-mail address.
I've posted a couple of queries and been surprised at the low level of response or comment (thank you to those that did, btw).
Of course, it could just be that I'm asking dumb or very specialised questions, but I did wonder.
The reason I choose not to display the address is because of the spamming thing. It's a works address so I'm a little concerned about the type of crap that could come through.
I'll risk it if it means I get to pick even more of your brains, though.

Just be warned that putting your address in plain in the body of the message will also attract the spambots; over that last few weeks I have had numerous offers of large sums of money from bereaved people needing somewhere to stash unexpected millions. Mind you, they did all turen out to be quite genuine and I am now a multi-millionaire...;-) This all came about because I mentioned my email addy in a posting about food hygiene; the spammers are out there and they are busy,

A useful tip to anyone posting their email address on a forum on the internet - always put (no-spam) in between the name and @ sign, e.g. my email address is johnmcfeely(no-spam)@yahoo.com
Hope this is helpful

Yes John, that is very helpful... thanks. BTW, if someone were to copy and paste as you've typed ie with the (no spam) inserted between name and @... am I right in assuming the e-mail won't be delivered?? I ask this as I'm sure not everyone would know to delete the (no spam) part of the address. I.T. 'puter stuff not a specialised subject, don't flame me...!!! :)

Aye Richard,
that's absolutely right; the email addy wouldn't work; this is how it would defeat the spam bots, as they are just simple programme routines that trawl the internet collecting groups of characters with dots and @ signs in them. They are entirely literal minded and will just faithfully copy whatever they find, so putting spurious characters such as (no spam) in your addy will make your email unusable to whoever (usually whatever as its probably another bot) they report back to,
John
