Can anyone help please?
I have a Seam welder that exceeds the NRPB guidelines in certain circumstances, due to the nature of the work carried out on the machine it is impractical to use fixed guarding. I understand that the best way to block the emmissions is to put a metal barrier between the operator and the welding wheels. Does anyone know of any PPE that can be used in this circumstance that has a foil or metal mesh built into it, but still allows the operator to move and carry out his work, or better still, an engineering method that will minimise exposure.
Some jobs take ~10 minutes to complete.
Your help would be most appreciated

Can you be more specific about the wavelength that is the problem, and roughly how much over the limit you are? Have you had some measurements done?

When I used to operate a HF welder we had longer copper earthing strips made to accomodate work that was of an unusual shape or size, which we were told reduced exposue. Having said that the strip lights came on when we pressed the weld button. A good indicator that something is wrong is when the machine is welding you get burnt if you touch any small metal objects in the room.
I don't work there anymore no prizes for guessing why.
