Posted By Adrian Clifton I have been asked if our buildings have certificates in relation to legionella and asbestos. To be honest this is the first time I have heard of such certificates. Therefore the question is; Is there a legal requirement for such certificates to be in place? If yes, who should be issuing them? Does anyone have these certificates? Any help on this matter would be gratefully accepted. Adrian

Posted By Robert Leonard Adrian, I'm assuming this is regarding the need for a Legionella risk assessment to be carried out on the building and an asbestos management plan. They are both legal requirements on non-domestic premises. A Legionella risk assessment needs to be completed by a competent person and will assess the level of risk within the building putting a series of recommendations in place (if necessary) to manage the risk. The risk comes from poor temperatures, stagnant water, aerosol generation etc. Under the Control of Asbestos at Work Regs 2002 all non-domestic properties must be managed for the presence of asbestos. In order to comply with these regs an asbestos management plan (AMP) should be put in place, this is normally based on the results of a survey on the premises. Hope this helps, if not email me and i'll send some more info. Rob.

Posted By Adrian Clifton Robert Thanks for your prompt response. We have risk assessments for both. We have management plans for both. We have an asbestos register and log books for legionella. What we don't have are certificates. Never seen one, don't know if they exist. Does anyone have them? Adrian

Posted By Robert Leonard The only certs regarding Legionella are notification of cooling towers. Others could be cert of tank clean & chlorination or testing (water quality) certs. Neither of which are legal requirements. Asbestos colleagues are equally blank stating none needed. Obvious solution is to ask the party involved "What certificates??" rob

Posted By MarkJAWatkins The only certs you get in relation to asbestos are the analysis certificates on the bulk samples or air test re-occupation certs. In this instance the analysis certs for the bulk samples will be in with the report (or should be) Regards, Mark

Posted By Linda Crossland-Clarke Hi folks After some surveys, testing etc we have issued certificates so the client can put it on their wall - displayed like the insurance certificate so their customers/contractors are aware a certain action has been undertaken. E.g. The office of x has had an asbestos survey undertaken and ACM has been found in the following places. Pubs & clubs are also having to show their insurance companies that at electrical items have undergone PAT - which throws the musicians out a bit as many of the guitars & keyboards etc haven't been tested and PAT companies don't generally issue certs either. From my point of view, its a nice bit of advertising. Regards Linda SHE knows

Posted By Dave Wilson Nice idea however I have found that if you put a poster on the wall or a sticker on an ACM them you will always get some hysteria from the doom mongers - 'Not working in here if its got asbestos in it we will all die!' There is no such thing as certificates for the above mate
