Posted By Andrew Cartridge Just a straw poll amongst forum members. Do you think you are valued by your employer/client, & if so, how? Andy

Posted By Andrew Cartridge Ok let me put it another way, if your opinion is no. Then why do you feel that you are not valued by your employer/client? I will be the first stick my head above the ramparts, & say I am valued by my employer & rewarded accordingly. Waiting for the incoming flak ;-) Andy

Posted By Breezy Yes... ...Otherwise they wouldn't employ me! Perhaps the problem is that the term 'value' is somewhat loaded.

Posted By J Knight Hi andrew, I feel valued; my salaray is in same the range as people in similar positions of responsibility in the Charity, my work is appreciated by my boss and the Directors, and they tell me so. I have influenced the Charity in the past and will do so in the future. Of course I would like to be more valued; they could after all give me all the Charity's assets and promote me to King, but that might be going a bit too far ;-) John

Posted By Mike Miller I have heard it said that doing your best for our employer is a little like spilling coffee on your trousers whilst wearing a dark suite, its a nice warm feeling but no one will notice....? I personally feel I am well paid for what I do but in an organisation as big as mine one cannot say that one is appreciated as the feed back is poor. I can only assume that they would notice if I was not there.

Posted By Anwar Afzal YES - No Question about it And whilst i am not recieving my dues financially and with perks as i would have liked, i am satisfied that due to my work i am making a difference to peoples attitudes in safety and life, and also that by helping them they feel they can be more effective and confident. I am happy that my colleagues are 99% happy and you cannot value that satisfaction. It is priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted By Ken Dickson Valued by my boss (MD), yes. By his boss (Group CEO), yes. By the rest of the business, maybe now-and-then when they get an answer they want to hear, other than that just an itch they can't scratch! But it's the first two that matter, cause they hold the stick that control the rest.

Posted By Merv Newman Sorry, but on the Body Mass Index, is the pay directly or inversly proportional ? And yes, I do consider myself as "valued". As an employee I know I was paid more than anyone except the site manager (and that includes my nominal boss, the RH director). As a consultant, my clients pay up and ask me back. And pass me on. Preen, preen, preen. Merv

Posted By JWG At the moment most definately not valued. I work for an Acute NHS Trust and all they care about is the clinical risk and clinical risk audits. The NHS has finally woken up and are about to introduce Risk Management Standards that encompass H&S and clinical risks. All of a sudden they are starting to taking an interest in H&S risks. Is it just a co-incidence? To all those out there in the NHS, this is our chance to shine and bring the NHS into the real world to make it a safer place for all.

Posted By Brett Day I've had clients that couldn't care less and I've had employers from the same ilk, but have also been very well paid. Am now working for a company who's pay is reasonable (I can do better but could also do a lot worse) but then have a company and manager who looks after thier employees. I would rather bee reasonably paid and happy than well paid and hacked off. When you get a call from your boss telling you that as you're very busy he has reallocated work to take the load off and when you turn up at a design team meeting and the client introduces you by 'Here's a man who knows what he is talking about'. Those are the time I feel valued.
