Does anyone know what he British Standard is for filing cabinets or where I can find further information. We have some three and four-drawer filing cabinets which are quite old and the drawers can open at the same time. I would like to make reference to the standard in my safety report.
Many thanks in advance

Hi,
From memory i think it might be BS 5459
part 3 i think deals with loading maybe interlocking of drawers etc. This standard rings a bell , hopefully I am right,
Seamus

Lorraine,
from BSI BS 4438:1969 Specification for filing cabinets and suspended filing pockets
Dimensions of 2, 3 and 4 drawer A4 and foolscap cabinets and suspended filing pockets. Includes requirements and tests for drawers and drawer fittings, for the rigidity of carcases and for safety.
Hope this helps
Regards
John

Does anyone know where I can view this standard.
I need to be able to quote the relevant info on drawers, but am loathe to pay £32.00 for the full standard for a single reference.
Many thanks,
Pete

Many thanks for your responses.
Unfortunately you have to pay for the documents. I tried ringing them up and was told to try the reference section of a large library.

Only reference I can find is
BS EN 14073-2:2004 Incorporating Amendment No. 1
Office furniture Storage furniture —
Part 2: Safety requirements
extract -
Storage furniture shall be designed so as to minimise the risk of injury in normal use.
The following safety requirements are based upon the knowledge that office storage furniture and its parts are likely to cause injury only when they are heavy and fall through a significant distance. This is possible if floor standing units overbalance, wall or screen mounted units become detached, or heavy parts become detached from
units.
any use? -
Paul
