Posted By Anwar Afzal I know we will know everything etc etc, but would it not be a good idea to have a social evening for networking purposes. What do you think?

Posted By Anwar Afzal Sure we can call it an IOSH branch meeting and have a few sherrys and a Balti. Think we need to see how many we can get interested where they are and work out a venue based upon the best location for all or have a function/meeting at different venue each time. We all end up at each others town/city

Posted By Glyn Atkinson I think that the underlying message (complete with tongue in cheek replies) is that there is already a network in place for this type of social and training activity - it's your local IOSH branch that is already up and running. Perhaps if you put up a general location of where you live or work, a local branch secretary may contact you with branch details? Lists can be found in the Safety Practitioner or on another area of this website. I can personally vouch that they are highly worthwhile sessions....... and the free coffee and biscuits !!

Posted By Andy Walker I won't be sarky Anwar I get your drift you mean something outside of the "official" get togethers, more of a safety bods knees up and fun night with a minimum of uptightness (if that's a word). I'm all for it. Andy W

Posted By Ruth Doyle Dear members, Your discussion raises some interesting points about the networking opportunities available to IOSH members and H&S professionals in general. I would just like to suggest that anybody looking for such opportunities in their area should contact their local IOSH branch. With 23 branches across the UK and Ireland, you’re sure to find one within easy reach. Each branch offers a diverse programme of events over the course of the year, with plenty of time set aside at each meeting for informal networking and socialising. Branch events are usually free of charge or low cost, and IOSH non-members are more than welcome to attend – they really are an excellent way to meet other industry professionals. On a national level, IOSH organise a number of large scale flagship events, with a mix of formats including conference sessions, exhibitions, gala dinners and drinks receptions. At these forthcoming events there will be plenty of networking opportunities: 23-24 August 2006, InterConstruct 06, Dublin 04-05 September, NSS 06, Leicester 15 November, Annual dinner, Manchester 29 November, Rail Conference, London 27 -28 March, IOSH Conference and Exhibition, Telford IOSH’s 15 Specialist groups also hold networking meetings throughout the year and across the country. In 2005 there were 37. All in all, IOSH hosts or organises up to 300 free or low-cost networking events for members every year. Please refer to our event listings on this website for further information. yours, Ruth Doyle IOSH Director of Communications …………

Posted By Anwar Afzal it will be a drink - drive risk assessment based upon travel distance, and alchol abuse with a touch managing violence and aggression, and then we might look a blood borne and conflict management based upon who is paying?

Posted By Andrew W Sorry I meant to post earlier in the week but you know how it is. Thanks to all for attending and making the evening a success (it seemed to be anyway) Thanks to Mr Cartridge for suggesting the excellent venue (well within staggering distance of the hotel) and I hope you are all looking forward to the next one. I seem to remember Yorkshire and December being mentioned through the haze. Andy W

Posted By Merv Newman So who/how many got to it and what happened to the bungee sticks ? Sorry I couldn't make it. Got stuck in a thunderstorm in Limoges. There were THOUSANDS of conkers on the ground. Lots of apples too but didn't see any pears. I'll organise the next one somewhere around here if you like. Freee bottle(s) of wine to anyone who makes it. Merv
