Hi,
could anyone offer advice on translating HSE regs into Polish/Lithuanian etc... Or does anybody know whether the HSE offer language packs on their website.

After finding the Polish translations on HSE, we also had some safety phrases done on cards with the English words alongside - for security guards to communicate with delivery drivers who come across and speak no English -
Things like - please stay in your cab while we unload the lorry - or - do you require a return invoice faxing to your company - that type of thing!
Works wonders, and it's amazing how you can get a smile not a grunt from the drivers in return, and the delivery process is made much safer as well !!

This is a HUGE issue within my job remit. Although as Orla says, there are many language services, I can only find a very limited supply of material, such as the High 5 of construction in Ploish for example. However, the main issue I find is lack of a pre-instilled safety 'culture' among large segments of the workforce. The language barrier plus notepad isolated me initially as they thought I was just another trouble causer! Then I presented the excellent TUC/HSE worker rights and responsibilities and assisted them towards the CITB safety test etc and I now have a rapport that is steadily improving. (ie H+S is in everybodies interests)
