The "initial" Buncefield report was released yesterday. This is the fourth report - don't know why it's called "initial".
It doen't seem to tell us anything about the accident process.
The details of how this accident came about must be known to the investigators by now. Would legal cocerns be prohibiting them from revealing the details?

The first three were I think preliminary and did not include much environemntal information. The aggregate is not great though, with the valve issues and other matters relating to operations being very abridged.
I think the key information is covered by the improvement notice served on the valve manufacturer and the report on the survey undertaken about site operations at other similar COMAH facilities. As you say it may be that more information is being held back pending decisions on any legal action.

I would like to see the part where they consider the planning permissions consented to local businesses and residental houses in the area which were effected in the blast, Oh wait, that will never happen.

Can you provide the links ?
My old site was within a few hundred meters and, I believe, severely affected. It seems I just got out in time. (1982)
BUT and this is an important BUT. Which requires discussion. I have known and worked with lots of chemical sites which are situated miles from any inhabited areas. At the time, we did not take into consideration the importance or the level of danger of so much combustible material stored within such a very short distance of us.
I knew it was there. But I just did not worry about it. Am I stupid, or what ?
Discuss. Please
Merv
Or did I just get out in time ?
