Posted By Steve B I have just been having a look on Ebay, for interest sake I typed in Health and Safety..... Now it may just be me.. but as a proffessional H&S Advisor.. some of the things I have found seem to belittle our proffession... I mean a IOSH Managing Safely course place being auctioned and this one really made me laugh... Ask a proffessional Health and Safety Person a question.. buy it Now £24.99.. Am I being over protective of our proffession Discuss Steve B

Posted By Captain Safety one of my collegues bought a disc of presentations, some of which were mine! When I complained to the seller, the reponse was "tough luck". Strangley when you want to complain to ebay about intellctual property you have to fax them!

Posted By Charley Farley-Trelawney I see most of what is for sale is probably available for free if you are prepared to look around. The IOSH MS course must be notes on a disc for self learning, do you get a certificate that you fill in the details as well? I would avoid anything on the bay such as you describe.

Posted By Glyn Atkinson Good enough for reference book sales if you catch it at the right time after exams etc, but not to sell information or completed works for assignments or the like? You can contact E Bay directly not through fax, but it can be a longer process - customer services registering a complaint on copyright would get you a response as they wouldn't want any type of law suit. That section sorted me out with a non payer of goods through their Paypal system, after going through their normal internal buyer / seller section.

Posted By Steve B There is also a copy of HSG 150....... first edition dated 1999, claims to have a lot of good information for construction work, agree it does BUT we are now on the third edition dated 2006 and there have been a lot of changes since 1999... third edition includes WAHR for example... some poor little building contractor may buy it think he has got everything covered.......... ah well if everybody was perfectly safe and did things by the book we would be out of a job..

Posted By Scottie CMIOSH What belittles the profession is the belief that that owning electronic information will in some way impart understanding. What utter tosh. Let people buy this stuff if they want - a fool and their money ...... If people want to understand safety they need mentoring / training from Chartered Members who actually know what they are talking about. This is the reason the old Part 2 had such a terrible pass rate - it measured understanding! By the way, ebay is a great thing.

Posted By Paul Hay It always makes me giggle when people get all uptight about copyright and intellectual rights etc. I doubt there is a safety bod out there who hasn't 'borrowed' something at some point. I say good luck to thoses who try to exploit the ebay avenue - there are a couple on there with hundreds of sales and high positive feedback, must be doing something right. They may even be users of this forum. Interesting comment that training should only be carried out by chartered safety practitioners - mmmmmm...
