Can anyone recommend a monitoring device to check Theatre staff for levels of Nitrous Oxide exposure (and thereby assess the effectiveness of the scavenger system)?
I also need to look at one of our dental surgeries where relative analgesia is practised (seemingly nasal intubation is used, but as patients are awake, this does not stop them from breathing out through the mouth!).
Should I be monitoring for any other exhaled anaesthetics?
I have seen the Draeger diffusion tube, but would like contact with others who have actually undertaken this task.
Thanks
John

The Health and Safety Laboratory Buxton offer personal nitrous oxide measurements by diffusion tube (not Draeger) as a routine service. Contact hslinfo@hsl.gov.uk or 01298 218218. They will be able to set something up for you.
As far as I know the Draeger diffusion tube has to be sent to Germany for analysis.

John,
I forgot to mention that HSL can also do sevoflurane, enflurane, isoflurane measurements (and halothane as well if anyone still uses it).
