Posted By David Whaley Have you considered BSi PAS 79 Fire Risk Assessment - Guidance and recommended methodology. Unfortunately you have to pay for it, about £90. But it seems to be considered by the fire industry as the standard to use. I used a proforma provided by the local fire and rescue service, which to be fair covered a lot of the same ground but even they are now reccommend PAS 79.

Posted By Ashley Wood I am a fire consultant and we use PAS79 as our guide. However, this is not for the faint hearted! Why go out and spend £90 when you could hire a consultant to do the job for you for a reasonable amount more! No, I am not fishing for work as we are very busy (like most fire consultants are at the moment, but please take care when doing these assessments. I advise my friends in the H&S world as follows, If you are assessing a shop, village hall, small club or office then have a go at the assessments yourself. If you are involved with large premises, manufacturing, theatres, cinemas, care homes and hospitals, get a professional to do it. It is not worth the heat ache and stress trying to do a compliant assessment without the knowledge and support required. I will offer any help I can provided it does not take up to much of my time, so feel free to e-mail me.
