Regarding whether APS and/or IOSH should be competant to be coordinators. Call me old fashioned, but whats wrong with saying that as long has someone has decent experience and is mentally alert that they are competant.
i'm a corporate member of IOSH but under no means would i want that in the ACOP of the CDM 2007, as much as i don't want APS there.
I think alot of people somehow believe that after 10 years experience anyone can suddenly become a good safety officer/coordinator.
The fact of the matter is that people who were poor at their jobs to begin with will still be poor after 30 years experience, and no CPD can change that fact. sometimes experience only gives false recognition to someone, and their ideas, who don't derserve it.
maybe membership of profesional bodies should take into account references that are given before they give chartered membership, and a passport to competancy. Maybe i'm ranting, in fact i am! are we losing the way, what does everyone else think?
