Posted By Willie Duncan The British Ladder Manufacturers Association do an excellent users guide to ladders. Although maximm loads for each of the standards are not detailed, the applications for each standard are given: BS2037 Class 3 Domestic use EN131 Trade, Light Industrial BS2037 Class1/ BS1129 Class 1 Heavy Duty and Industrial Ladder ratings and standards always seem to be a bit confusing and it is always wise to check with the manufacturer to make sure the ladders selected are suitable for the application. Unless there have been changes, Class1 BS2037 and BS1129 have a rating of 130 Kg EN131 Class3 is 115Kg the other EN131 classes are very lightweight and not really suitable for the workplace. Any leaning ladders or stepadders without a standard on them are best avoided.
