Hi all,

Can anyone with experience in the area of lifts and escalator maintenance + installation, what are the most common safety issues apart from falls from height, controlling access to the area, lifting equipment hazards etc

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul, look on the HSE 'www' you should find the information you require there - sorry I can't be more specific, if I'm honest I cannot remember the actual document number (I'm sure another bod will though...?).

Don't forget PUWER, and contact your insurers in terms of maintenance schedules and WSE.

Do a 'google' for "Kings cross fire", there are some other issues to consider in terms of the management and accumilation of waste materials.

Good luck with this one.

Hi Paul, Oooops... of course, there is the informative document (at least for me it appears) called LOLER.

Again, I blame this one on the heat...

Hi,

The information you are looking for can be found in BS-EN 81-1:1998 - "Safety Rules for the construction & instalation of electric Lifts" (which replaced BS 5655: Part1:1986)

LOLER is more to do with the inservice statutory examination after installation is complete.

BS7255:2001 Safe working on lifts i and BS7801 Safe working on escalators and moving walkways are good standards to look at. I sat on the committee that prepared these so if you want a chat please feel free to call me.
