Posted By Stephen A I have an open question to all,I have recently been people watching on the bus and have a few comments to make regarding passenger safety and wonder if others might share similar views. People often stand up before a bus stop, the bus could be at full speed, swerving, bumping up and down, possibly all at the same!.Often a person will walk/stagger up the bus, stand gripping the internal bus Poles/straps for dear life, untill the bus actually stops and they get off. Should there be signage telling passengers not to walk up a bus while in motion? What is the accident rate for slip trips and falls on Busses? Is there a Demographic trend? Does over all responsibility go with the Bus company or passenger, should such an accident happen?

Posted By The toecap You sound like your in Liverpool. I once saw a sign on a bus in Torquay that told passengers to ring the bell and stay seated until the bus stops. However in Lpool they stand up and walk to the front before the bust has stopped.

Posted By John Webster But many buses are actually designed to take more standing passengers than seated and there are some, notably at airports, which have hardly any seats at all! Its the same with trains and the London Underground. It seems that the control measure is to jam so many standing passengers in together that it is virtually impossible for anyone to fall over, no matter how hard the vehicle brakes or swerves. This then requires the passenger to find a way to the exit before reaching the next stop, otherwise the bus or train will move off again before the passenger can get to the door. Once the doors have closed, no ammount of jabbing at the bell will persuade the driver to open them again. Torquay must be a very genteel place :-)

Posted By Stephen A I do know of 2 pensioners who have had falls due to this. Maybe I am being a little Nerdy, but does it not seem amiss for Bus companies to have No signage or Instruction for correct usuage? The Bus drivers could be working on such a tight deadline that they cause the passengers to panic and rush? I am in Manchester by the way
