Hello everybody,
Does anyone have any information relating to the exposure of surveyors to asbestos fibres during the course of sampling?
And does anyone out there conduct regular personal air monitoring on surveyors?
Regards,
Mark

hi mark download MDHS100 from the HSE web it givers info in there on what surveyors should do. Also if the surveying company is UKAS accredited then they should have a QM sytsem and documentation which covers this.

I am aware of MDHS100 and UKAS systems and operations. I was just curious if anybody has conducted any personal air monitoring whilst taking samples.

Its always been an issue with me as well, clients dont want surveyors with disposable overalls and masks on 'frightens the staff' we do medicals for our people the same as the removal staff but never done any personals on the surveyors.

I know of a story that happened during an initial UKAS inspection for accreditation.
The inspector went to audit how the company surveyed as part of the assessment process. The surveyors togged up with white suits and masks (masks hanging round their necks) they hadn't even stepped in the building and the UKAS auditor failed them.
Don't know if it is true or not!
We do a lot of LA surveys and they won't even let you tell the tenant that you are doing an asbestos survey. You have to tell them that you are doing a house condition survey.
Regards,
Mark
