Posted By Eliot Clarke I wonder if anyone can help:- We are about to embark on a refresh of Company computer equipment and will no doubt be asked if staff can purchase the old kit as it is replaced. Historically we have refrained from allowing staff to purchase electrical equipment for health and safety reasons i.e. we can give no guarantees or warranties and do not wish to expose ourselves to any claims. We wish to maintain this view but can you point me in the direction of anything more specific that we can rely on? Many thanks

Posted By The toecap Why dont you give them away? Then you wont have to pay to have them disposed of. Perhaps they can make a charitable conation to a preferred organisation such as cancer research etc

Posted By Darren J Fraser Contact your local envirowise and they should be able to give you details of local computer recycling schemes, some of which take the equipment for free, wipe the hard disks etc and then pass on to local community projects / groups.

Posted By Tabs Recycling them through organisations who will then give the necessary checks and bill of good health is a good solution - but giving them away to staff would not absolve you of your duties to ensure their safety.

Posted By Eliot Clarke Guys, thanks for the responses I probably didn't explain myself very well. We want to give the computers to charities etc but have been asked by a certain individual why we cannot give them to staff instead. Which specific legislation is relevant, if any, as an argument for not providing them to staff due to the possibility of future claims if the equipment becomes faulty. Thanks
