Please would someone be able to point me in the right direction of where I could gain guidance on any restrictions for working near to petrol filling stations. I have contacted the HSE and waiting response. Also the APEA pubilcation which refers to the construction and maintaince. Any Codes of practice or pointing in the right direction would be appreciated. Thank you

MOD Defence Estates "Safety Rules and Procedures (SRP) 03" provides guidance on this very topic. If carrying out hot work within a certain distance of the product (fuel) a restricted area must be set up under a permit to work (minimum distance 4.25m); lower explosive limit (LEL) to be below 1% or else work stops; and, entry into the restricted area (including tools and equipment) being adequately controlled. If you are not working on the petrol forecourt but some distance away then procedures may be less onerous; however, watch out for wind direction and vent pipes that may be installed some distance away.

Kind regards

Nigel

Many thanks for your help. It's amazing who actually offered helpful advice on this subject. The HSE, The owners, the suppliers eetc. The local petroleum officer I must say was the most helpful and offered sound advice. The others no comment.

Thanks again to you all
