Posted By Peter Longworth Just a quick question. We have a number of test areas that use computerised equipment for testing gas boilers. The testers test approx 7 boilers per hour with test results displayed on a monitor in graphical form. During the test cycle the testers perform other duties such as attaching and detaching test connections, affixing labels, scanning bar codes, etc so they are not constantly looking at the monitor. Occasionally they glance at the screen to ensure that the test cycle is running correctly. In the event of a failure an error code is displayed. My first reaction is that these test stations are not covered by the DSE regs but I would be grateful for any opinions. Whatever happens I intend to conduct an assessment of the test areas to satisfy myself one way or the other.

Posted By Les Welling I would agree, however, the DSE Regs say. "Microelectronics assembly or testing operative: Uses DSE to view tests or completed components. Uses DSE frequently for, typically, repetive operations throughtout the working shift. A dedicated test panel may be used in place of a stadard keyboard". Not sure if this applies to testing of boilers though! Have a look at Regulation 1 of the DSE Regs, as I am sure that will help.
