I have noticed recently that one of the hire companies we use has stopped tagging their vibratory equipment (red, amber & green).
The hire company explained that they had been informed by the hire association europe that the traffic light system is flawed, and that they are going to use the manufacturers data.
When i questioned them on this issue i explained that without the necessarry information we are unable to accurately assess the risk and if we follow the H.S.E. guidance on this using the manufacturers data (which if we are not sure is a tri-axial reading) we would have to double this reading which may render certain items of plant un-useable due high vibration levels.
i have contacted the hire assocaition europe via e-mail and am waiting for their reply.
has anybody else come across this recently
regards
allan

Used the system since 1996 [yes 1996] before the HSE [to my knowledge - help me please if I am wrong]used it
If you do your work properly you can transfer information into such a system for easy day-to-day use by front line etc people
The problem with such a system is that it highlights, very easily, which equip is high risk therefore the equipment is harder to sell/hire
