Posted By Frank All I wish to join IOSH as an affiliate member. I am aware of the costs and join up fees, however what are the pre requisites for joining at this level? I literally stumbled or should I say Fell into H&S by having an accident at work. I have completed Iosh managing safely and recently took my Nebosh General Certificate and will get my results in October. I now do safety presentations as to the human cost and Impact of my Accident in my spare time but I would like a fundamental grounding on H&S Issues in general and I wish to look at human factors and peoples behavioural patterns in more detail, hence why I wish to join IOSH then I am assuming that I will be able to attend meetings/seminars/courses/discussions groups etc etc on the subject matter. I have looked at the Application form but I don’t think that I am in a position to tick any boxes or get my Company to be a referee as I do not officially hold down a H&S position although some of my roles is assisting in drafting up any new local safety procedures and any technical safety training due to my limited mobility and the restrictions since my accident which was in Mar 2003. Any assistance or general comments on joining IOSH i.e. would I be better leaving it until I get the results of my Nebosh Gen Cert would be appreciated. Frank Carrano

Posted By Hazel Harvey Frank, We will be happy to accept you as an Affiliate now, you don't need any specific qualifications. We find that a lot of people join whilst they are still studying as they find the SHP magazine very useful. Once you pass your certificate we will assess your experience to see if you have the 5 years required for Techncian Membership. Hazel Harvey Director of Professional Affairs
