Posted By John Murgatroyd Looks like more than HSE staff may be looking for new positions soon....no inspections [ever ?] means less H&S across the board [country].
In a 10 August notice to [HSE]staff, G******* P***** said the move to reduce the total number of staff by between 250 and 350 posts by March 2008 and cut programme spend was now necessary to get back within budget. In addition to savings on staff costs, £3m will be trimmed from the publicity budget, £250,000 from policy contracts, £1m from the out-sourced Workplace Health Connect programme and £1.3m from the extra-mural science and technology budget.

Posted By Merv Newman Remembering that fines gleaned from speed cameras were partly invested in buying even more cameras ; Why can't H&S fines go even partly towards employing more inspectors ?
Positive feedback.
Discuss on a very wet saturday afternoon.

Posted By John Murgatroyd That's one answer. But, of course, with inspections falling so will prosecutions. And so will fines. This always supposes that the Powers-That-Be are not intending inspections to stop. Another did-you-know: from HSE INFOLINE. You have no right to refuse to use a defective machine just because it is defective ! And another, same source: The person training you to use an item of equipment doesn't necesarily have to know how to use it him/herself.
