I'm currently drafting a PPE policy.

Can someone sell me the plus points of the Risk Survey Table in Appx 1 to the Regs?

I'm having difficulty seeing what benefits it provides when a job specific/condition risk assessment already exists.

Cheers

Mornin John,
I would not bother, but here are my thoughts on what could be included in a policy,
1.a general statement/what the company will do/reduce risks/secure the H & S of employees.
2. a small arrangement section linked to your RA to find out what ppe is suitable/storage/consult with employees/maintenance/cleaning/training in use/replacement/inform employees of the risks/re assess when required if work or procedures change.

Procedures
1. if employees have a concern over ppe / investigate/put corrective measures in place/let the employee know what the company is doing about the concern.

When In Use
1. employees to inform line managers

Info & Training
1. how you will inform / train/instruct/all employees to ensure their H & S

Safe Sytems for work
1.how you will ensure good fit/ can be adjusted for comfortable fit/employees to inform if damaged or not working/emplyees reporting if something is wrong with the ppe/ppe will be compatible/reporting ill health/ employees to inform if training required.

Summary
1. only use ppe to manafacturers, employers instructions/use as designated by RA/only use ppe if trained/clean,store,repair & maintain ppe/ to be replaced when broken

Sorry John, I did want to also add, that the table is just to help focus for ppe requirements with the hazards present in any task to be carried out.

btw, my reticence about the table is along the lines of the temptation to whip the table out before doing a risk assessment of the job and going for the more effective controls first.

A sort of a "right, let's sort out what PPE we're going to have" thing.
