Hi. I have had a discussion with a contractors Contract Manager on tower scaffold training requirements. There are two people erecting a tower for short term access up to 8m. One of the operatives has been formally tower trained and certified but the other isnt.

The contractors argument is that only one of them needs to be trained as he is the only one at significant risk. The other guy (not formally trained)is jut passing the components up through the trap.

The contractors is stretched and doesnt have another trained guy available but I am still insisting on having two trained people on the tower. Any opinions on this? cheers.

Hi Nick,
1. is this the right equipment for the job
2. Is the operative trained to erect this type of tower, by the supplier or manafacturers (instruction are handy)
3. Your operative could be PASMA (prefabricated access suppliers and manafacturers association)trained.
4. I do not see why you cannot have one trained / competent person, as long as the untrained person does not erect on his own.
beware of the minimum base width to height ratio.
Should be external use 1 . 3 and 1 . 3.5 for internal use.

This goes from the smallest base width which are the ends of the tower, add the outriggers to the ends then measure the distance between the outriggers. this would be your smallest base width

Hope this helps
