Good afternoon

totally outside my remit this one.

I've been asked what legislation covers the giving of medication to service users by care workers that have received the appropriate training.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Regards, Gary

Hi Gary,

Good question! Don't have an exact answer for you unfortunately (though I'm going to be looking myself now!) however this link...

http://www.csiw.wales.go...s/yng_adult_stands_e.pdf

...should take you to the Welsh national minimum standards for care homes for younger adults. Section 20 refers to various pieces of medication legislation which unfortunately are not available on the OPSI site as they are too old. However it might give a springing off point.

Try the Care Standards Act 2000 and any related regulations (Here in Wales we have the Care Homes Regulations 2002 and the Domicilliary (Spelling?) Care Agencies Regulations 2002. I assume there are eqivilant regulations for England, Scotland and Northern Ireland).

Your best point of call my be your insurers - I know ours are very hot on meds and meds training, and will probably stop you from having to trawl through loads of legislation.

Good Luck!

Thanks

Thanks for the link. Knew a bit about the Care Standards Act but not in detail. Off the top of my head I thought it would be the Medicines Act or something along those lines??

I don't work for the company so can't ask insurers unfortunately.
