Greetings,
I have been tasked with giving a presentation on our health & safety policy and procedures. The challenge is to "make it short and sharp", in a one hour long presentation.I have a few powerpoint slides prepared detailing the main features (highlighting duties and responsibilities) and a 'flashcard' exercise showing 20 procedures and I am looking for another 10 minute exercise especially for those operatives on the shop floor who may find the whole subject dry. Can you help, please?

Posted By Richard Altoft Simple quiz, question on powerpoint on screen with A, B or C as the options, progressively tackle the myths such as no-one ever goes to jail or show what the real big stats are in H&S not just the 3 hundred killed but teh 1000,s injured and 10,000's with bad health and the real chances in a 40 year working life of a real injury or debilitating illness. Let them guess the chances and depending on the working environment ask such questions as "you are working alone, you take a chance just this once, your arm gets trapped in the machine what do you do a) phone a friend, b) ask the audience c) go 50/50 --- sorry no more chances your dead. OR Dedicate the last 10 minutes of the session to someone who you know died at work and tell his story in stages and keep asking -- what happened next, to him, to his family, to his boss etc. If you do not get some of them in tears within 10 minutes I will be surprised !!!!!!!! Posted By Anthony Rocheford Hi Mark. I agree with Richards suggestion, I would also divid the group into teams and have one team draw up a safe procedure for an activity and let the others critique it and then you do an analysis pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of the exercise.

Posted By Tony Carr Mark Check out www.accident-awareness.co.uk. The guy is called Frank, he came to our place and did a presentation on when it all goes horribly wrong. It had an impact on my guys with out a doubt. Made them sit up and think. Tony
