Posted By Malcolm Chambers I need to do a short PP presentation on the hoist accident at Littlebrook Power Station back in January 1978 but cannot find any information on this on the web apart from a HMSO publication that I will not be able to get in time. Does anyone out there have any information on this accident or perhaps can point me in the right direction of where to find said item?
Thanks

"Some hoists designed to carry passengers or materials in shafts or for use with cranes and oil rigs should be taken out of service at once. This request follows the accident at Littlebrook "D" Power Station on January 9 in which four men died and five were seriously injured. A free-fall test demonstrated that the safety gear had failed to function. The type of hoist concerned is described as a 'rope suspended shaft-type passenger/materials hoist' manufactured by ACE Machinery Ltd. The hoist should not be used until a free-fall test has shown the safety gear to be satisfactory.
