Posted By halesowen Baggie I have been asked by a mate if I can put together a Health & Safety policy for a hockey club (it is for some sort of accreditation). Has anybody got a generic type one for a similar organisation, Im a bit stumped to what to put in it? Nobody is at work, no management structure, they play hockey?

Posted By Darren J Fraser Does the club 'employ' anyone at all ?- groundsperson, tea person etc. How is the club managed ? - committee or a manager/s. If everyone is a volunteer, I would look at some of the charity organisations, such as the RNLI, Oxfam etc to see if they have a policy and what it contains, would also look at other hockey clubs, especially those that have been accreditted to the same as the club that has asked the question. If all esle fails, the policy could be something along the lines of : - Name of hockey club, takes the health and safety of all persons involved with the club and any and all visitors seriously. It is because of this that the club will implement best practice to ensure that all persons are healthy and safe blah blah blah and will look to continually improve all aspects of this policy.

Posted By dervan Is there a clubhouse? who cleans and maintains it (slips in muddy boots etc? who washes jerseys? does it encourage car pooling to get to matches? Insurance issues for all members? I think it is a bit difficult if it is a crowd who rent a pitch to train and thats it.

Posted By Ron Hunter Sometimes, we just have to bite the bullet & 'jump thru' the hoop' in order to meet a criterion applied by an external body. The Accrediting Body no doubt thought it would be a good idea to ask to see the organisation's H&S Policy as part of the process. Sometimes, these things are merely "on the tick list" and not really subject to all that much close scrutiny (I speak from experience). That said, I suggest that the HSE's own template, as shown on pages 21-31 of the freely available INDG259 (free for download from the website) could be readily adapted by changing some key words & phrases to produce the document required?
