Try getting in touch with your county emergency planning department. They will have a stategy and plans for various national / regional / local emergency scenarios. I have found my local emergency planning office to be very helpful in matters like these.

or if really old organisation the A-bomb plan.

How can you plan as you can't anticipate the way people will panic should it happen

World Health organisation use a traffic light system, you could follow that and respond accordingly

Download the leaflet from the DfES as suggested by 'pugwash'. The WHO state that a serious pandemic is inevitable over the next few years similar to those which occured in 1918 and 1950(this is not just another bird flu panic).

Your plan should cover how the setting will cope with higher levels of staff absence and determine who will decide if/ when the setting will close - we are advised to stay open as long as possible. Think also about how a sick child will be kept apart from others until parents can collect them. In the mean time, ensure contact lists for staff and parents are kept up to date and that children are taught how to wash their hands and supervised to ensure as good personal hygiene as possible. Make sure that they cover their mouths when they cough and use disposable tissues for wiping/blowing noses which are then carefully disposed of!
