Posted By Nicholas Morris What arrangements do fellow professionals have for cold store workers and breaks? We have a store operating at ~-10C with workers going in for a maximum of around 2 hours fully kitted up with freezer jackets etc. Most of them need to be in there for much less than this. We currently have no maximum duration guideline so I am wondering what others do in a similar environment. Many thanks in anticipation.

Posted By Steve B Many moons ago,(about 15 years) I was doing some agency labouring work and I found myself at a macdonalds distribution centre working in the freezer units at night, basically filling cages up for onward distribution to the shops. at that time their policy was 1 hour in the freezer and 15 minutes out, and then after four hours 45 minutes out, I remember at the time thinking to myself this is good all this time off, but since I have been working in H&S approximately 12 years I think it would have been Risk assessed and that is the control measures they cam up with..... Try HSE guidance (Thermal comfort in the workplace) it may steer you in the right direction. hope this helps Regards SB
