When I consulted to larger companies and I was doing 20 hours a week for them I was paid a retainer of £1500 per annum; on average it amounted to between £2500 and £3500 per annum. It covered the odd day off and some holidays, I also included it as a bank holiday payment. No doubt others will either scoff or put up an alternative figure.

This is what I did prior to being employed by one of those companies as a Director. Hope this helps slightly.

charley,

Sorry but can you explain in lay man terms how it works how can £1,500 equate to £2,500? and £3,500 does this figure cover my down time in effect?
