Posted By sian Can anyone provide any information/templates on where to start with a confined space risk assessment. I have the basic understanding but need to go into a little more detail. sian

Posted By sagalout Sian, just in case you haven't been there already. http://www.hse.gov.uk/confinedspace/index.htm Apologies but I do not have anything that is e-friendly on this that I could send you. As confined space is such a variable hazard situation, probably better chance of a reply if you are able to give some details of the type of confined space.

Posted By Granny Something I came across recently is the confined space identifier from OSHA. Although this is of course based on American legislation. http://www.dol.gov/elaws/confined.htm Sometimes one of the most difficult "first" stages to overcome is agreeing that the space you are considering is a confined space. In terms of risk assessment the confined space guidance from the HSE is comprehensive, but I always think it's useful to breakdown the hazards by the following categories - hazards generated by the design of the confined space (e.g. access/egress, space constraints) - hazards generated by what the confined space has been used for (e.g. mixing chemicals etc) - hazard generated from the activities you are planning to do in the confined space (e.g. welding) - hazards that may arise from others activities outside the confined space (e.g. setting up a diesel generator) Hope this helps
