I would want know what is done in UK for instilling an appropriate understanding of risk management from an early stage at school.
What is the on going relationships about educational ministryu and IOSH to reinforce this early risk information?
Thank you very much for this forum and your answers...

One question - why?
Schools are for education - not training.
Risk management (in this context?) is what you do when you are adult - it's a life skill.
The only apropriate teaching of what we would think of as "risk" in school would be, in my opinion, in maths as part of the teaching of probability.

Risk management is a very important part of education, although neither the parents/ teachers nor the children probably understand that that is what it is. Children are curious about the world they live in and we have to allow them to explore that world, gauge and stretch their capabilities and learn that the world is not a safe place, whilst controlling those risks so that they do not endanger themselves. No one would dispute for example that we have to teach children how to cross the road and thus manage the risk that they face.
Children at Key Stage 1 can be taught that there are safety rules and the reason for them. At Key stage 2, they can start to manage devise their own risks in school e.g. where in the play ground to play ball games. When they move to secondary school and Key Stage 3 they can start to do risk assessments and some risk management in practical subjects and at Key stage 4 and beyond they should be taught to assess risk and risk management on a wider scale. In so doing, we fit them for the world of work and to be responsible adults, not trying to stop them pursuing adventurous activities however, but enabling them to do so safely

Sorry Genevieve - In the English education system, the Key stages are :
1 - First four years at primary school, roughly ages 4 to 8
2 - second three years at primary school, roughly ages 8 to 11
3 - next three years at secondary school, roughly ages 11 to 14
4 - next two years at secondary school, roughly ages 14 to 16
