Posted By Antony McManus I've been asked by our sparkies dept to source an 'electric shock safety kit'. I've found lots of safety hooks. But, they are looking for a 'rescue station' comprising of hook, insulated gauntlets, visor etc. Anyone got any ideas of where to source one. Thanks in advance. Tony Mc

Posted By George Wedgwood In the old days, power stations had an insulated 'rescue pole' for pulling an electrocution victim away from an energised source. I can't find anyone who still makes such a tool but can say that a modern risk assessment will state that isolation of the power source is an essential operation in the event of electrocution. Training is therefore essential too and operations staff will have to be very aware of key points of isolation for the various parts of the system. Normally, insulated HV gloves are available on most power sites (so can be used in an emergency to pull a victim away from a voltage source) and resuscitation training is a must for anyone involved in a rescue. The key thing here is confidence in individual's ability to rescue a colleague - train and refresh regularly and ensure that system risk assessments as well as task assessments are up to date and include emergency provisions! If you think you need a pole to rescue persons, try one of the HV companies who make operations poles made of glass fibre, such as http://www.tools4utilities.com/index2.html or http://www.edgcumbe.com/ Hope this helps, George

Posted By Peter Rose Hi In addition to George's post, insulated gauntlets, and other "shock kit" items can all be sourced individually. Email me and I can probably sort out some info. Sorry, but I do not know of a complete kit. Peter
