Can anyone advise on the regulation(s) regarding the installation of fire detection systems also the min/max distance between buildings adjacent that would require both buildings to be monitored by the sane detection system.

John, the short answer to your question is 10m, but there is not a necessity to have the adjoining building linked to the same alarm system, it just makes sense if it can be done. There are a lot of things to consider, what is the fire hazards in the main buildings and adjoining buildings, what are the life safety issues within the adjoining buildings, is there a route to be able to run cables to the other buildings. If the buildings are some distance from the main building then it may not be possible (without huge expense) to run the system to them, then you would have to either look at a radio linked system or a stand alone system. The 10 meters distance is a typical ire break distance between buildings, in theory this would prevent fire jumping to another building! again, it depends on what is in the buildings. Hope this helps?
