I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.

I work for a training company and we have 2 gantry areas (one of which has been newly built,)my is query is that is there any specific legislation that details the need for kick plates round the gantry area so that there is less of a risk of anything falling down to the ground level, so therefore less of a risk of anyone getting hurt?

I would be grateful for any info on this.

Thanks
Natasha

The risk from falling objects is covered by the Work at Height Regulations 2005; HSE have published a brief guide here: http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg401.pdf.

A gantry designed for pedestrian access may not have required toe-boards/kick-plates but where a work activity is carried out on part of it and there is a risk of injury to persons below from falling objects the risk assessment may well require these while the work is taking place - unless better protective measures can be used.
