We are holding a Christmas party for our employees' children in a room measuring 198 square metres. There will be around 100 people. What would be the maximum number considered to be safe in a room of this size?

Check the fire regs. How many emergency exits are there? Take 1 of the exits out of the equation. With reference to the regs see how many people the door will allow out taking into account its size.

How many exits? How close to each other are they? If you could sketch out a floor plan - dimensions, table layout, exits etc, I'd be happy to do the calculations for you :-)

Consideration also needs to be given to the activities that will be taking place, e.g. running games or just sitting down having some food then receiving a gift from some dodgy character in a red suit.
I have several great video clips showing how quickly a dry christmas tree can burn.

Hire a room in a hotel and
let them worry about the
H&S ramifications at
Christmas!!!
Enjoy the party and let
your hair down!!
Happy Christmas in advance!

From your figures the number of people allowed safely would be 122.35732, or 122 really
