Hi All,
Currently assessing a few ideas for my MSc dissertation and wondered if anyone can point me in the direction of the following information:
UK data for occupational asthma (have tried to get it off the SWORD database and Office of national statistics but no luck).
Samples of occupational asthma surveys or questionnaires.
Thanks in advance.

While on the subject of asthma, it has historically been assumed that you need to inhale the causative substance to get a reaction.
We now know that this is not true. For example, with isocyanates there is evidence that skin exposure/ingestion can trigger both sensitisation and an allergic reaction in a sensitised person.
I have some information on this, so if this is of interest, contact me off the forum and I will let you have this.

Depending on who you consult, it's from 650 to 700,000.
The figures for total occupational respiratory complaints is higher.

ASTHMA STATISTICS
• There are 5.1 million people in the UK with asthma.
• Over 18m working days are lost to asthma each year.
• Asthma now costs the NHS an average of £850m per year.
• There are 1,400 deaths each year related to asthma; 90% of these deaths could have been prevented.
• For most people their asthma is not caused by work, but there can be things at work that make it worse, even to the point of triggering an asthma attack.
• Occupational Asthma is caused by exposure to substances at work. Unlike pre-existing asthma, occupational asthma can be cured if it is identified quickly enough.
