Posted By Bill Elliott I have a bit of an issue currently where my employer is seeking to cut funding to training. To be fair I have been asked to point out the implications of this and am able to pick out numerous references in legislation and ACOPS's. What would be helpful though is applicable case law - the more recent the better. Can anyone direct me please?

Posted By Steve Cartwright Your employer has a legal obligation to train staff. Look under section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 providing it is related to the work they do.

Posted By GeoffB4 I don't think there is a definitive answer Bill - to the question of cutting funding, without knowing more detail. I would think it starts by looking at the current funding level - is it high/low, is sufficient or more than sufficient training currently being carried out. Is all essential training being carried out. Within the lower level of funding could it be better aimed at essential training, could you pay less for your existing training ......

Posted By B Smart Hi Bill, the type of training necessary might dictate the budget so if basic health and safety training is all that is required then it would be reasonable to expect the Health and Safety Manager to carry out the training. If specialised training is required then it is a simple case of researching the course providers and trying to get the best deal affordable. Legislation does state training must be provided but it does not dictate how much money should be spent on it. Sorry if I see to be a Jonah I wish I could tell you that every Company should have a really big budget for training, it would suit most people on this forum if that were true. B. Smart
